This cephalometric examination was developed by Drs. Arnett and Gunson for surgical patients. The analysis is a realistic examination which guides treatment of FAB – face, airway and bite. All measurements are either perpendicular to natural head position or the true vertical line through subnasale. The wiggle gram is utilized to aid in visualization during diagnosis and treatment.

Important profile projection assessments include subnasale verification, cheekbone/maxillary base projection, upper lip position, upper lip determinants, chin projection, chin projection determinants, and lower facial balance.

Important profile heights evaluated include facial height, facial height determinants, vertical balance, maxillary incisor exposure, incisor exposure determinants, and chin shape. Very important to this examination is airway measurement with norms and standard deviations.

The examination is less than one page therefore concise and yet thorough. The format of measuring important landmarks and those factors which determine that landmark is key to the successful treatment with this program. For instance the upper lip projection is determined by three factors; upper incisor projection, upper incisor inclination, and upper lip thickness. Treatment of these three factors to normal will produce normal upper lip projection.
