Arnett/Gunson ORTHODONTIC FAB™ CEPHALOMETRICS

This cephalometric examination was developed by Drs. Arnett and Gunson for Orthodontic patients. The analysis is a realistic examination which guides treatment of FAB – face, airway and bite. All measurements are either perpendicular to natural head position or the true vertical line through subnasale. The wiggle gram is utilized to aid in visualization during diagnosis and treatment.

Important profile projection assessments include overjet, overjet determinants, upper lip projection, upper lip projection determinants, chin/mandible projection, chin/mandible determinants, and mandible to maxilla balance.

Important profile heights evaluated include overbite, overbite determinants, maxillary incisor exposure, maxillary exposure determinants, and vertical balance. Very important to this examination is airway measurement with norms and standard deviations.

The examination is less than one page therefore concise and yet thorough. The format of measuring important landmarks and those factors which determine that landmark is key to the successful treatment with this program. For instance the upper lip projection is determined by three factors; upper incisor projection, upper incisor inclination, and upper lip thickness. Treatment of these three factors to normal will produce normal upper lip projection.

This program can also be utilized for thorough diagnosis treatment planning of surgical patients.
